It was announced Friday evening that one of the biggest names in west coast stock car racing has signed on as the title sponsor of the SRL Southwest Tour Series, newly named the SRL Spears Southwest Tour Series. At a dinner of more than 200 SRL Southwest Tour Series team members, officials and sponsors held at Madera Speedway, Larry Collins announced that Spears Manufacturing, a world leader in plastic piping products, will be the series title sponsor for the remainder of 2009. Wayne Spears and his wife Connie have owned competitive race teams for more than 25 years, including teams that competed on the NASCAR Southwest Tour Series, the Camping World Truck Series and championship teams in the NASCAR Camping World West Series..: Full Story

NO. 12 NAPA AUTOCARE TOYOTA HEADING TO IRWINDALE

Drive for Diversity driver Paulie Harraka, driver of the No. 12 NAPA AutoCare/Adaptive One Brakes/Copart Toyota Camry for Bill McAnally Racing, has two top-five finishes this season at short tracks. Last season he recorded eleven wins in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series and won the track championship at All American Speedway. In his first West Series race at All American Speedway, Harraka put the No. 12 entry from BMR on the pole. He has started on the front row twice this season. The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) announced today a history-rich list of 25 nominees for the inaugural NASCAR Hall of Fame induction class. From that list, five inductees will be chosen via a process that includes a nationwide fan vote on NASCAR.COM; the inductees will be announced in October and honored next May at the new Hall of Fame facility in Charlotte, N.C..: Full Story
VENEGAS WINS SECOND INDUSTRY SPEEDWAY CYCLE MAIN

Charlie “the Edge” Venegas, 42, became a two-time speedway cycle main event winner this season Wednesday at Industry Speedway in The Grand. He started his No. 43 JAWA 500cc cycle second in the five-wide Division 1 feature and led all four laps. It was his second victory in the last three weeks and his 35th victory in the six years of speedway cycle racing at the Industry Hills Expo Center. Shawn McConnell, the 2008 Industry Speedway track champion, won a coin toss with Venegas and selected the inside starting position (lane one). He challenged Venegas for the lead from the starting gate to the first turn where Venegas edged past him for the lead. McConnell settled into second spot where he remained all four laps.
