Thorn Wins Second Spears Southwest Tour Title

For the second time in three seasons, Derek Thorn was crowned the champion of the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series. In route to his second series title, Thorn, from Lakeport, California drove his Campbell Motorsports #43 to victory lane on four occasions, and finished runner-up three times in 2014.

Tri Track Series Back in 2015 with New Tracks, New

The Pacific Northwest witnessed the beginning of a new Super Late Model racing endeavor as the Tri Track Super Late Model Series kicked off its inaugural season in 2014. In the first year the series saw over 80 drivers take the green flag with 10 different winners over the course of an 11-race schedule. The series returns in 2015 with some new additions including two new tracks, a new series director and some of the region’s biggest names committing to the sophomore season.

Lucas Oil I 10 Thanksgiving Winter Blast

The Lucas Oil I 10 Speedway will be lighting up the holiday weekend by presenting their 13th annual Thanksgiving Winter Blast this Saturday night. The full evening will feature six different racing divisions on the quarter mile paved oval located at the Colorado River Fairgrounds in beautiful Blythe-California. The speedway's 2014-2015 Winter Blast racing season is being presented by Next Era Energy Resources. Saturday night's Thanksgiving weekend special event is being presented by the Palo Verde Valley Times: the trusted local news leader for Blythe-California and Quartzsite-Arizona.

Helberg Dominates George Snider Classic at Kern

Rohnert Park, CA's JoJo Helberg put a cap on the inaugural King of the Wing Sprint Car championship by winning the season ending national championship race on Sunday evening at Kern County Raceway Park. Helberg's win at the lightning fast half-mile was his fourth win in the six race series for Winged Pavement Sprint Cars at speeds over 150 miles per hour.

King of the Wing 410/360 Sprint Cars at Irwindale

Dazzling speed with abundant passing was on display Saturday at the banked, asphalt half-mile Irwindale Speedway. The first appearance of a formal racing event for winged sprint cars powered by 360 and 410 cu. in. engines with restrictor plates worked. A field of 27 sprinters was divided evenly between 360 and restricted 410s. The inaugural King of the Wing (KOTW) season, organized and promoted by 11-time Indianapolis 500 driver Davey Hamilton, attracted 4,273 spectators. Many of them were lured to the event by a three-car winged sprint car demonstration 10-lap race during the November 1 event. Ascot and Perris dirt track sprint car racing fans, curious to see winged sprints on a fast paved track, also increased the turnstile count.

Doss, Mardis Score Victories

Jeremy Doss won the 125-lap SPEARS Southwest Tour season finale and Jim Mardis captured the 75-lap Lucas Oil Modified Series feature race as The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway closed the 2014 season on Saturday night with the West Coast Short-Track Championships. Doss, from Upper Lake, Calif., dominated the Southwest Tour main event in much the same way he ran away with the 150-lap NASCAR Super Late Model Open Comp at The Bullring on Oct. 25. Doss, 17, grabbed the lead from Ross Strmiska on lap 70 and pulled out to a 2-second lead before a late caution bunched up the field for the final 25 laps.
