Tucson Sports Group LLC
is looking to bring asphalt racing back to Tucson (at the Pima County Fairgrounds). We are assembling a group of investors, sponsors, racers and racing enthusiasts to make this a reality.

It is our goal to bring back the days of Tucson being the premier racing venue in the southwestern United States. Our vision is to return the car counts to the levels of the mid to late 1990’s, where every Saturday night we can enjoy action packed short track racing with 25-50 cars in every class, and hosting special events bringing in 75-100 cars.

It is our belief that a successful track must be a partnership between the track management, the drivers/owners, and racing fans.

We have had preliminary discussions with The Pima County Southwest Fair Commission, and have been advised there are some legal issues that need to be resolved regarding the prior lease. They are anxious to get these issues resolved and bring racing back to the Pima County Fairgrounds.

We understand that this venture will not be accomplished overnight, and are putting together a long term business plan along with a proposal to present to Pima County Southwest Fair Commission within the next 90 days.

To accomplish our goals, we are seeking public opinions. We appreciate you taking the time to fill out the appropriate questionnaire (links are at both the top and bottom of this page). Once we have preliminary information gathered, we will contact interested parties and schedule meetings that are open to the public to discuss our progress.

We will also keep people informed through this website and social media.

Thank you for trying to re-open Tucson Raceway Park!!! I relocated here from New England, where I Raced asphalt throughout the region, where asphalt racing is king, Back in 2006. I was fortunate enough to aquire a ride here in Tucson, in a Super Late Model for owner "Big Larry" Caitlin. Under Dan Ruth's "ownership" and without a ride due to finances, I was enlisted to perform duties at TRP as Head Tech Inspector.
Tucson Raceway Park, of all the tracks I have been privileged to race at throughout the country, is one of the greatest, most racer and fan friendly facilities I have ever had the pleasure of competing at and working for.
I hope that you are able to complete your dream for TRP and restore it back to its historic roots.
If there is anything I can do to help the process along, please feel free to contact me at my e-mail address,dkpm21@comcast.net, or cell # (401) 749-2983. Asphalt racing in Tucson is a staple which should never be allowed to fade away into the past!

Sincerely,

Ken Morrissette

I hope you reopen the track soon I miss the action on great asfault racing. Since 2006 I also was employed at TRP as the Starter/Flagman. Being up on the stand is the BEST spot to be when the cars are on the track. I miss the sites, sounds and smells from the track. A true fan knows what I am talking about. I have worked with lots of good people and the drivers were always fun to be around.
Hopefully this will happen soon so that everybody can enjoy racing again.

Hey guys,

I am happy to help however I can as I represent a driver who has run there in the past and did well, and would love to run there again.

I did not see any links to the questionnaire that were referenced in the post. I will follow up with a personal email.

Best regards,
