Enough talking about crate motors, clips and pounds, lets talk tires. Here's one way to be fair. Four new tires for the first three races, then one new tire per race after that. If you buy a new tire, you have to run it that race, notice no take offs ever. The cost is almost the same, but takes the guessing out of digging through the tire bin. Also, nobody has the advantage of having more access to the tire bin than others. The most important part of this plan is, EVERY team leaves their tires at the track after each race. Yep I said it, leave your tires at the track, still mounted chained together, with your serial number on them. Each week you check out your tires and buy one new if you choose to. The take off rule last year didn't work, by the end off the season, there was no rule at all.

How do you scale your car at home if your tires and wheels are at the track?

American Racer g60s!

But that would make way to much sense (and cents)

Along with a one tire rule.

Dealer is just north of Shelby

Scale your car on old tires at your shop then fine tune at the track. Can you think of a better way to police the rule.

Ye its def not fair for certian people getting away with running stickers every race. The average guy out there racing can't compete. I agree with leaving the tires at the track Giles included

Pay them what they deserve and put them back on an 8" hoosier. You could get 3+ weekends outa the lefts and buy rights every other weekend. $400.00 to win and 200.00 to show up we could run new tires... Just my opinion. That 8" tire was fun as hell... Irwindale Limited Lates run the 8" hoosier too, or at least I know they did the year Joey Tanner ran down there.
The good thing about the takeoff program is that any car including outa stater cars can find a set of decent take offs. I like a strickly enforced tread depth rule during prerace tech inspection if we are on takeoffs.

Are we talking maximum tread depth? The problem I see with take offs is its impossible to police. If they would require every racer to buy their tires on Saturday at the track, no exceptions, then maybe. Even then, you gotta dig through that trailer for an hour to find the stagger you want. If the tire rule is about keeping the cost down, one tire a race would do that. Not to mention the strategy of deciding which tire to replace each week could be a lot of fun.

keep using take offs
1/4 of racing is luck, one way is to have a special stamp just for that class only mrp officials can stamp, and number tires. buy only 6 tires at beginning, 2 tires every race,
tires are numbered by track and in the storage area, odd numbers left even numbers right. you go to purchase tires and pick a number, example 23,47,51,2,6,10 . the track official goes and gets your numbered tires you picked and that is what you get. no looking for the perfect tire
didn't get stagger better luck next time have to set car up for what you have.
cost still stays low and test your skill at driving and set ups.
just another idea.

Any stamp that is produced, can be reproduced. I don't like the track picking my tires. Your setup depends on your tires, lets just say the track didn't like somebody... lets just say... do you think they are getting the best tires available. Probabaly not...

I don't think a lot of people that say just let the track pick your tires understand how crucial stagger is to your race car. Minus 1/2" of stagger makes a huge difference in how that car reacts and feels. To me it all goes back to the pay, how many late models would there be if the tires cost $500 and winning was only worth $400. Not many... Yes the takeoff helps tire cost, but it increases speeds and makes wrecking more expensive... Just some thoughts...

302 is right...

But does it have to be Hoosier?

This AR g60 is the best tire out there. 8" treaded. Modified fun them and like 'em (high hp to weight) 5 nights/set!!!! Set track records right before the cords show. Under $100

But makes way too much sense.

Hoosier g60s/970s/800/700...all junk that dont repeat.

One thing that I have learned about racing is that rules are nice, only and if only they are enforced. You have to have zero tolerance policy. It doesn't matter who it is. Rules are rules. Don't make them if you don't plan on enforcing them. If a track can prove that EVERY car is on a even playing field, the cars will show up. JMO

Not sure who the fox is, and I know it sounds radical, but I still say confiscate the tires after every race. I can't think of a better way to be sure tires aren't treated or traded for newer tires.

If a guy wants a new tire all he needs to do is cut it after a practice session, then tell the tech official he cut a tire down. I've seen a guy lose more than one tire in a night just from debris on the track for real. Whats your policy for this situation? What if 2 tires legitimately get popped in an accident? Does that car get new take offs?

racers from out of town come to race! have to buy tires at the track and the ones that can take their tires home can treat them.... imo that keeps other cars from comming....

No out of town cars will just show up not knowing what tires they will get. Unless its run what ya brung with a tread depth policy.

Seriously AR G60s. Need a treaded tire. Without treads a new tire WILL ALWAYS be faster. But new tires with treads...they squirm. Feel snotty. And fast as hell when bald.

Goodyear STS dont repeat either. Ran them all. Only like 1. SLMs should be on this tire lol.

If you are saying the AR G60 is the best tire out there, you have never run the goodyear they run in Northern CA

Last I heard MRP was in a contract with Hoosier. I'm not sure of their current status, or if they can sell another make of tire along with the Hoosier tires they currently run. Limit the cars to 6 tires to start the season, no more than 2 tires per weekend from there out. I like any new tire as long as they are as cheap as possible, and everybody is on the same quality tire...
