Keep in mind that most all race track insurance including Nascar is second to your own personal insurance. Also Nascar owns all the other race track insurance company's.Smile

Ken , In your "deal" after it was all said and done , what % of your costs were coverd by Track , Personal Insurance and out of your pocket ? I think your story could really help other racers decide how they are coverd...thanks.

At WestWind Speedway ALL drivers are given a Candy Bar and are coverd by the "Freshness Guarentee" .

I've had to use track insurance twice. What my primary insurance didn't cover, NASCAR covered the rest of the bills including ones that were a result of a continuing injury from the accident for the next three years. I had doctor visits at least every 2-3 weeks for 3 months which included x-rays at each one. A year after the accident, their insurance also covered the MRI that was needed due to a continuing problem from the injury. No co-pays and it also covered all prescriptions too. The second accident the EMTs had me to to the hospital as a precaution, and luckily I didn't have a direct injury.

The amount that the NASCAR insurance covered on just the first accident has more than covered the 13 years I have paid for a NASCAR license and my pit passes. You always hope something never happens, but sometimes it does. These accidents happened in my 2nd and 3rd year of driving, and I hope I won't have to use it again, but I'd rather be protected by their insurance than have nothing at all.

It states in the policy that you have to use your primary insurance first, I'd have to do some research to find out what happens if you do not have any primary insurance. I was on my parents insurance then, and they may have changed the policy since then.

At that time, Evergreen also had two different insurance policies for participants, one was covered through NASCAR for the NASCAR members and the other one was the track's insurance that covered the non-NASCAR classes at the time which were the Figure-8s, hornets and demo cars to name a few.

Pete At the time of my accident Spanaway had a $75,000.00 insurance policy that paid regardless of of your personal insurance, at the time that was more insurance than most all non Nascar tracks had.
The bottom line was that the track insurance just barely covered the 20% that my insurance didn't pay how ever the big deal was loss of income I was laid up for over a year and keep in mind when you are self employed your medical insurance comes out of your pocket so if you don't send in the premium each month there not paying any more bills. Bottom line is if I had not sold my business property early that year I would have lost every thing I owned.
I can also tell you that if some one else had a accident and sent this same message out that I would have still raced and hope the hell it never happens to me.
Also Nascar insurance wont cover you when racing at a non Nascar track.

Nascar License $90

Member pit pass $30
Non-member pass $50

You do the math on how long it takes to pay for itself Wink

Ken, from what I understand after talking to other racers and from what I have read, ASA short track membership insurance is the absolute best out there. And not associated with NASCAR. Does't just cover you at the race track, but from the moment you head out to the races on race day, from home or shop and until you get home after races. Hard to beat that. Coverages exceed NASCAR coverage as well.

Scott
I am only going by what a promoter told me in the past He said K & K insurance which was the major insurance co. for all the small tracks was bought by the Nasacar corporation which still sells insurance to non nascar tracks.
ASA may be self insured through there sister track program.
If most racers and small local sponsors knew all the risks when towing and racing a car they would think twice about it.
Can't live your life on the what if's but you can damn sure make it as safe as possible, had a trailer leave the motor home on the free way one time that could have been a real bad deal but thank God it was all my own stuff that got tore up when it went into a dirt bank and shot the race car out the front of the trailer. The 2" ratchet straps holding the car ripped in half from the impact like they were shoe strings.
If you are doing every thing as safe as you can or know how to then the rest is up to the guy up stairs. Smile

Being forced to buy a Nascar License is dumb to me. Doug said last year there would be 2 memberships available, what happened to that?

Ken,

Definitely not trying to argue with your info. I just had talked to a few people who have been associated with the ASA program, including a couple of promoters. Think the article I saw was in Stock Car Racing a couple of years ago. Made it sound like it was an individual deal. And the best part seemed to be the full race day coverage.

Wow, that sounds like quite a 'ride'.

You are definitely right though....make sure you do all that you can to be safe. SmileSmileSmile

You're not forced to buy a NASCAR license. You can run there with no membership at all.

OR...you can choose a different track to run at that isn't a NASCAR Home Track. There are lots of options. Cool

If you all would just go to the website and look on the front page for Evergreen Speedway you will see this:

Any night that we race, other than a Demo Derby/Enduro, you are required as a Driver to have a 2012 NASCAR License.

This is interesting because just this week I spent almost $200 at Jim Green's on parts for our car. Asked for our 10% discount from Jim Green himself and he knew nothing about it. Said the track hadn't said anything to him or made any arrangements for the discount.

Saved the receipt with the hopes that this will be resolved soon.

tgirl - Did you mention to them that the reason you shop there is because of thier affiliation with the speedway? Whether it is true or not, it only helps the racing community. Just something to think about. Saving the recipt is great, but making sure they know why you patronize them over any other parts place is the key. This kind of goes for all of us. Cool
