miracles happen one step at a time

We have been so busy getting settled....I haven't even been on line for days....weeks....

Reading the updates about John and Ben facing the battle with cancer....puts the little things of life in perspective...how many of my prayers have been for trivial things? How many things do I fail to say a thank you for?

So I wanted to say again....We are praying for both of you and your families...Thank you for being such special people to us.

I hope we are all reminded to say "I love you" to our friends and family...even when frustrated or overwhelmed....like the other day when the cat got sick the puppies chewed up things and while I was cleaning all that up, Peter-John "washed" his dishes himself and put them away with the clean dishes and I then had to wash most of my clean dishes too....but in just a brief moment of frustration the laughter came...what a joy to have him trying to help.....

Miracles are ever present.....

Today.....a new miracle happened....

Peter-John was balancing in the doorway....he looked at me, let go of the doorframe and took three steps forward and fell into my arms!

This was the first time in his life of taking steps without holding on to something....

A year and a half ago, when he was going into surgery....I remembered being told by a doctor to let him rot...just leave him in the wheelchair...he wasn't worth putting the money into.....

How many parents cry at seeing a 14 year old take three steps?....but EVERY step we take in life is a miracle.

In all my dreams, I never even prayed for that....I prayed for him to be mobile...but to walk unaided was beyond any dream held for him, even by the doctors....

Breathing, eating, walking...and for us running our fingers across a race car, hearing the engine reved...these things should bring a tear to our eyes of thanks and joy.....

Never forget the many many things in our lives that seem mundane that are miracles hidden by routine.

Love, thanks, blessings and racing smiles to all of you....without your prayers and love Peter-John wouldn't have ever gotten far....for all of us independence actually comes from being dependent on our "team"....

For so many of you who have the talent to be racing or working on the team of a cup car, even if you never get your break to do that....know that in a small town in Missouri a fourteen year old boy took his first steps today and that is a trophy given to you from God because you took time to give him a racing smile....always take a moment to give racing smiles to your fans....for those trophies help make miracles.

Racing smiles.....

Anne and Peter-John
