Doesn't anybody have stories (maybe you heard them from your dad or grandfather) about the 'jalopy' classes or what we called 'modifieds' back then ? A few names to spark memories: Pete Erickson, Frankie Jamieson, Jim Maling, Ed Trujillo (Sr and Jr), Jay Haley, the Ingram brothers, Ivan Hielman, Hollis Wilburn, Carl Butler, (and many, many others).
