One day I remember vividly was the appearance by Pat Flaherty who had won the Indianapolis 500 the previous race. This was in an era in which a local short track racer could aspire to go to Indianapolis. I was in junior high then and I had a good friend namced Gil Roberts who I hung out with at the races.
