| Whateverittakes 06/22/09 07:45 AM | Makes alot of sense just ask the Super Stock division drivers at Irwindale what happens when a track changes up the rules so much that the division becomes not affordable, like way back when they started letting them run headers, and non stock suspension parts the guys who could afford it did just so, but the ones who could not and then could not be as competitive quit racing, then the track decided to go to spec motors for the division so that left alot guys out in the cold who had too much spent on their open motors and did not have the cash to buy a spec motor so if they ran their open motor they were penalized by weight and a special restrictor plate which again made them not as competitve so then more cars were lost, then the most recent joke is a spec body for these cars, and on and on basically the race director at this track does not like the old style bodies for this division and wants to be rid of them so be it that is exactly what is happening. The drivers made a plea to the race director to lighten up on the rules so they could get some more competitors out so that has happened but still they are only seeing about 12 to 15 cars, this division used to have 40 plus cars in it and put on some really close and exciting racing, but no this track has deciced they want to start a new division called S2 a totally spec car and spec body, they are letting it replace this Super Stock division!!! The whole car only cose $25,000!!! How many Sat. night racers who already have a perfectly good Super Stock type car can go out and spend that kind of money for what this track is calling a starter division!!! Anyhow for all of the long lost Super Stock drivers we at Irwindale miss your great side by side exciting racing and we will miss your division so any of you who read this please let us know what your plans are for next season and where you might be going to race because I am sure some of us regulars at Irwindale will want to come and watch you race. |
