| Vizn72 09/16/03 02:56 PM | Late model or Street Stock? What we really need to do is establish your motor's torque curve and suit your gear choice to optimize the area under that curve. Torque accelerates the car. Torque is the motor's potential to do work..... Horsepower is the rate at which that work is done. this said....running a gear that gets you to that big HP number on your dyno sheet at the end of the straigtaway might be an overall deficit to speed because your car might quit making torque at like 5500 rpm.... and the Ford gets away. The Ford guy is most likely just spending more time in the torque sweet spot. Tourque is king. The Ford most likely runs a different tranny gear unless he's in drive or 1:1... His motor, due to components and setup, also produces a different curve than yours.... so don't copy him. If you are quicker through the middle.... and are getting beat at the flagstand to entry, I'd start to back out of gear and let that thing pull right through the bleachers.... Good luck with your championship hunt.... and finding those last 2 tenths..... You've got the hard part figured out.... The car turns!!! I'd love to know what you come up with. |
