When not having to go through treatments, Dave has been home resting and over the weekend enjoyed watching the different races at Daytona. He has had lots of support and assistance from his family and close friends. Although this has been a very painful event for Dave, his teams and fans, Dave has discussed taking the positives from Phoenix and building from there.
One positive that was very apparent was the way this group of guys worked in Phoenix prior to the accident. "For a new team and new crew, these guys worked great together. I know that with Bill Strauser and his group from Washington and our guys from the Bay Area, this can be a winning team. I look forward in getting back into the car and racing with these guys." Work continues to locate a full time sponsor for Dave so he may continue to not only race in the Featherlite Southwest Tour Series, but also for Winston West, and other NASCAR racing series.
Again, Dave wishes to extend his thanks and gratitude to all those whom have supported him and prayed for him during this painful time.

Dave was resting with his daughter, mother and a couple friends Wednesday night after spending the day with doctors. Dave will begin his recovery by daily visits to a Bay Area Burn Center. Dave was very surprise that he was able to come home. He was glad to be resting and taking it easy after this ordeal.
Dave commented on the graciousness of his friends and fellow racers. He was especially touched by the $3,300 that Kenny [Shepherd] and other drivers collected for him at Phoenix. He commented that this generosity could only be found within NASCAR and the racing community. No other professional sport shows its participants this kind of love and generosity.
For the next couple of weeks, Dave will be relaxing and going to treatments, concentrating on getting better. He also wishes to extend his gratitude to all of those whom have had him in their prayers and thoughts over the last few days.

As of this morning, Dave is doing great. He was taken off of his respirator Monday morning and is now sitting up and talking. He has started to eat and will most likely be released to come home between tomorrow and Friday. Dave and our team have appreciated all the support and prayers we have been given. I will keep you up to date on Dave's condition and return to the Bay Area.
Drivers Doug McCoun and Kenny Shepherd collected $3,300 dollars from drivers and crew members to help Byrd get through this time.
