UPDATE - 2/15/99
On Saturday, Dave made his fourth visit for treatment of his burns to his face, neck, side and arm. Dave's face looks like it is healing very well. He has regained his form since the swelling has subsided. He still has his father's chin and all the parts are where they are suppose to be. His daughter and future dates will be glad to know that his lips are healing back just fine. Dave will continue to have daily treatments for the next couple weeks. These are very painful treatments but Dave realizes they only have to go on for a short while. Dave should find out his week more of what his realistic healing process should be. We have already begun to plan the return of Dave in the #50 based on Dave's prognosis and healing timetable.

When not having to go through treatments, Dave has been home resting and over the weekend enjoyed watching the different races at Daytona. He has had lots of support and assistance from his family and close friends. Although this has been a very painful event for Dave, his teams and fans, Dave has discussed taking the positives from Phoenix and building from there.

One positive that was very apparent was the way this group of guys worked in Phoenix prior to the accident. "For a new team and new crew, these guys worked great together. I know that with Bill Strauser and his group from Washington and our guys from the Bay Area, this can be a winning team. I look forward in getting back into the car and racing with these guys." Work continues to locate a full time sponsor for Dave so he may continue to not only race in the Featherlite Southwest Tour Series, but also for Winston West, and other NASCAR racing series.

Again, Dave wishes to extend his thanks and gratitude to all those whom have supported him and prayed for him during this painful time.

UPDATE - 2/15/99
Dave Byrd Dave was resting with his daughter, mother and a couple friends Wednesday night after spending the day with doctors. Dave will begin his recovery by daily visits to a Bay Area Burn Center. Dave was very surprise that he was able to come home. He was glad to be resting and taking it easy after this ordeal.

Dave commented on the graciousness of his friends and fellow racers. He was especially touched by the $3,300 that Kenny [Shepherd] and other drivers collected for him at Phoenix. He commented that this generosity could only be found within NASCAR and the racing community. No other professional sport shows its participants this kind of love and generosity.

For the next couple of weeks, Dave will be relaxing and going to treatments, concentrating on getting better. He also wishes to extend his gratitude to all of those whom have had him in their prayers and thoughts over the last few days.

UPDATE - 2/9/99
On Saturday, February 6th, Dave Byrd, driver of the #50 was involved in a crash at the Phonix International Raceway that sent him to Maricopa County Hospital's Burn Unit. Dave has sustained 2nd degree burns on his neck and face. Doctors and nurses have assured Dave will he will make a full recovery. They have even said through the healing process, he might even come out looking a little younger.

As of this morning, Dave is doing great. He was taken off of his respirator Monday morning and is now sitting up and talking. He has started to eat and will most likely be released to come home between tomorrow and Friday. Dave and our team have appreciated all the support and prayers we have been given. I will keep you up to date on Dave's condition and return to the Bay Area.

Drivers Doug McCoun and Kenny Shepherd collected $3,300 dollars from drivers and crew members to help Byrd get through this time.
