Community Cares Jim Kent

Jim Kent passed away this morning (May 7, 2003). Kent was with NASCAR before joining the NASCAR Craftsman Super Truck Series in its inaugural year. He became the chief tech inspector and held that position until 2001, when NASCAR.com reported that rumors in the garage suggested, “his departure was due to the fact that he could make more in one day at his private job than he could in two days of official's work.

“Kent's departure also resulted in his wife, Nancy -- a favorite with everyone in the garage due to her evergreen nature and kind heart -- being absent from the series.”

The cause of death is not known at this time.

For those that would like you may leave a thought, or prayer for Jim Kent, his wife, family and friends. I imagine there are more than a couple of you that knew him from the CTS and his early years.

God Speed, Jim.

Hello All, Just a short note to let you all know that Jim's Memorial on Sunday had a nice turnout of longtime friends and family with Gerald and Jennifer supplying lots of support to their mom, Nancy. I believe Jim and Nancy met when they were kids (about 16 years old probably earlier). In fact, I hear it told that Nancy pulled Jim off the farm, so to speak, and came to California soon after where they made a life together in Canyon Country and worked, raced, and raised their children. We never just said Jim Kent or Nancy Kent alone, it was always Jim & Nancy Kent. I know Jim's passing is going to be real hard for Nancy and I want her to know we are thinking of her. Love to you Always.

A FEW DAYS AGO DAVE ROCKWELL PHONED ME WITH THE VERY SAD NEWS THAT JIM KENT HAD PASSED AWAY. TI WAS A GREAT SHOCK TO ANNE AND ME. HE WON THE SPORTSMAN CHAMPIONSHIP IN 1983 AND FINISHED SECOND THE FOLLOWING YEAR. GOD BLESS YOU GENTLEMAN JIM. MAY THE LORD'S LOVE COMFORT NANCY AND THE FAMILY

  • Chris Morgan
Jim Kent was without a doubt the most kind hearted and gentle man I ever knew and it was Jim and Nancy who took me, a 23 year old California kid under their wings in our days with the Truck Series. So many great memories. As an official I have never met Jim's equal in either knowledge or especially patience and kindness for the racers. He was always quietly firm in his resolve, often smiling at the likes of Timmy Kahooth, Dennis Conner or any number of other crew chiefs who were "playing the game" trying to say, come on Jim its just an 1/8th or 3 pounds, etc. In response Jim never had to raise his voice or argue he simply told them how it was, ensured it was the same for all and went out of his way to make sure all understood why a decision was made. I say simply, but we all know, no matter what side of the game we're on, how much patience and respect acts like those took. For this all admired, respected, and loved Jim Kent. Jim was a dear friend and like Randy and Danielle said he and Nancy were nothing less than our second parents. My heart and prayers go out to Nancy, Jennifer, and Gerald. We will all miss Dad and extend deepest sympathy, our love and support.

"A Man" Measure a man not by his victories but how he accepted his loses. Measure a man not by where he's been but how he worked to get there. Measure a man not by whom he has knocked down but by whom he helped up. Measure a man by not what he has destroyed but what he has created. Measure a man by not how many people he humiliated but by how many he left with dignity. Measure a man not by what he had but what he had given. When a man passes from this life to the next, measure him not by how he died but how he lived.
