| Jim Kent passed away this morning (May 7, 2003). Kent was with NASCAR before joining the NASCAR Craftsman Super Truck Series in its inaugural year. He became the chief tech inspector and held that position until 2001, when NASCAR.com reported that rumors in the garage suggested, “his departure was due to the fact that he could make more in one day at his private job than he could in two days of official's work.
“Kent's departure also resulted in his wife, Nancy -- a favorite with everyone in the garage due to her evergreen nature and kind heart -- being absent from the series.” The cause of death is not known at this time. For those that would like you may leave a thought, or prayer for Jim Kent, his wife, family and friends. I imagine there are more than a couple of you that knew him from the CTS and his early years. God Speed, Jim. |
