Lloyd Conwell the oldest son of Ernie and Alma Conwell of Kent, Wa passed away on February 11th after a 2 year battle with cancer.
Lloyd raced a bomber car, # 72 at Evergreen Speedway from 1986 - 1992. Lloyd had a passion for racing along with his dad Ernie and brothers Vince and Chuck. They started out by building one car and shared racing duties for the first year. By 1990 Lloyd, his dad Ernie and Vince competed against each other in the # 72, # 82 cars. That same year Vince won the bomber championship and Lloyd received the Sportsman of the Year award. It was in 1992 that brother Chuck joined the racing team adding the # 92 car while Vince moved up to the Super Stock class and Lloyd became his crew chief. Lloyd loved the races whether at the track or watching Winston Cup on Sunday's. One of Lloyd's favorite memories was when Ernie, Vince, Chuck and Lloyd built a 1970 Monte Carlo and raced it in a 200 lap enduro at Evergreen. Each one took a turn at driving and finished in 6th place. Lloyd competed against drivers such as Gary Lewis, John Bender, Brian Millhuff, Rick Hubbard Shane Biles, and Johnny Zaretzke to name a few. WOW he had great competion. Lloyd was the oldest of 9 children, our family will miss him very much. |
