| Letter sent to Irwindale Speedway by Sal Cerchio
To all that work/manage Irwindale Speedway and off duty Irwindale City employees.
The night started out great as it was the desire of Dan Cerchio [Super Truck Driver # 11] to show off his new yellow & black Peterbuilt truck and won the best looking Big Rig competition. For some reason this was most important to Dan and Dan's father Big Dan so the whole family and friends came out to see both the truck show and the Super Truck race as Dan told us he was going to win the show and do his best to get at least the Hard Charger award for his race. This is Dan's rookie year and he has been showing some real good skill on the track so we all thought this might be the night.
Well things didn't turn out quite turn out as we would have ever thought. At about 8:30 that night there was a loud bang behind me, when I turned to see what it was I saw my Brother-law's Mom [Marge Busby] face down in the stands. I ran around some other people as to assist her but by the time I got to her 4 to 6 other people were on site attending to her. Now these people did not know Marge Busby or even anyone in our group but they did what seemed to be natural to them as some did crowd control and others tried feverishly to save Marge. One of the men administering CPR looked to me and said we need medical assistance so I flagged down the security guard, explained to him we have a medical emergency and could he call for help, thus he did.
Seconds later the cars on the track were red flagged as to allow the ambulance across the track and that race did not re-start until Marge was carried off the stands.
Now this trying to save Marge Busby life went on by these nice people until the EMT's got to her/them in the stands, information was exchanged by both Scott Busby [Marge's son] who knew her medical history and all the info the people that were trying to save her life had and they seemed to have a lot of data in such a short period of time. I was very impressed by what I will now call the Heroes that tried to save Marge as they knew what to do and did it.
As it turned all the trying in the world couldn't save Marge Busby's life but it wasn't from a lack of trying and knowing what to do as she was surrounded by professionals. Yes that's correct professionals, as I later found out they were off duty Police, Fire and EMTs [HEROES] from the city of Irwindale and L.A. County that didn't have to help but did what seemed to come natural.
After Marge was transported to the hospital with her fait not yet known the Irwindale Speedway track manager came to us and offered any and everything to the family and friends of Marge Busby, I mean anything [transportation, logging, escorted to the car in the parking lot] you name it he was willing to give it.
Like I said Marge Busby didn't make it but if there was any chance of survival she was in the right place.
On behalf of Busby family, husband Bill, daughter Pam, sons Jeff and Scott I would like to thank all those unselfish people who are indeed the true Heroes in our community and all the workers and managers at the speedway a very Heavy and Heart Filled THANK YOU.
Irwindale Speedway is indeed a fine and safe place for NASCAR fans to enjoy the sport.
