| In a freak accident on the last lap of the final event of Saturday night’s auto racing action at the Lakeport Speedway, Marlene Baker of Lower Lake lost control of her car, spun around and broadsided the crash wall coming out of turn four. The hit was on the driver’s side of the car and was a hard direct impact. Baker was transported to Sutter-Lakeside Hospital where she lost her battle with life and was pronounced dead. Baker’s passenger, Chuck Egger, who is also her son, suffered a severe concussion and was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial. Egger remains in stable condition in the intensive care unit and is expected to make a full recovery.
This is the only fatality at the Lakeport Speedway since auto racing began at the Lake County Fairgrounds in 1949. Reported by Nadine Strauss |
