| Saturday July 30th Race at Speedway Willow Springs
This past Saturday’s races started off well. We had more new cars this week and a good car count, the dream of all small oval tracks in America. The Bombers had so much fun on July 9th they asked BWS if we would let them come out again for an unscheduled race on July 30th, of course BWS said yes. Practices all day and good qualifying with some fast times. The bad weather passed us by and we started with our Trophy dashes as usual. Many fans came out on this day and most participated in our “Fan Appreciation” event, where all the fans come out to the track to meet the drivers, get autographs and even get there pictures taken with our racers. As usual we proceeded from there with our Heat Races for all divisions. As the Main events started with a 20 lap OHV Kart race, the evening’s racing came to an abrupt end when the race was marred by an accident in turn 1-2. The #99 kart of Mike Brinegar was involved in an incident which ultimately took his life. Rest in Peace Mike Brinegar, we will miss you. Understandably the nights racing was then cancelled in his honor. Chris Brinegar, Mike’s son, has announced that Services for his father will be held at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Rd., Whittier, Ca., 90601 in the Garden of Affection, #5882. This Monday, August 8th. Please call 562-699-0921 for time. You may send flowers and condolences to Rose Hills. Chris Brinegar would like to thank all fans, friends and family members for their prayers. All of the racers at the track on Saturday unanimously offered the entire nights Purse money to Mike and his family. At this point we have raised 1900.00, thanks mostly to our drivers. Chris Brinegar, Mike’s son, asked that donations be handled by BWS. If you would like to donate to this fund you may do so by sending a check to BWS at 43420 5th Street East, Lancaster, Ca., 93535, please make checks payable to BWS and write #99 or Mike in the memo line. All funds raised will be forwarded to Mike’s family. . We at BWS would like to send our deepest sympathies to the family and friends and all who have been touched by the passing of Mike Brinegar. The 2011 Stock Car Season will continue in Mike’s honor as scheduled at Speedway Willow Springs. A ceremony honoring Mike Brinegar will open our next race on August 13th, followed by a night of Stock Car Racers and fans racing on, as Mike would have wanted. Race and Ceremony will begin at 6 pm.
