How do you say “good bye” to a man who was such an integral part of your life for so many years? Not only was Ron a very close friend, in fact, he was more like a brother. He was a very important member of the team which built Galpin Ford into the #1 volume Ford Dealership in the World! He brought Galpin Ford popularity in those early racing years when he brought home the winning trophies. And he continued to bring respect and admiration to Galpin by his on-going commitment and dedication for more than 40 years - from February 1955 to December 1995. He shall be dearly missed. But we don’t say “good bye”, we say “so long, dear friend, until that day when we shall all be reunited and live forever in peace with our Lord”. Bert and Jane

Wow, what a shock, i think i may stop answering the phone, nothing but bad news as of late. at age eleven our family started going to Saugus Speedway and guess what? the year was 1965! the year that Ron won the championship in the famous Galpin Ford sponsored maroon #97 under the guidence of the very knowledgeable Leon Ruther. i was instantly drawn to that car and especially the driver as he was so smooth and every move was very calculated. as anyone who attended Saugus in those days knows, Ron won a lot of races. every week we went into the pits after the races to talk to Ron and i would always ask him to autograph the latest picture of him usually purchased that night. i will never forget the first time i met him, he was so friendly even on the rare occasion that things did not go so well. i wish that i had a color picture of his car. at the age of 15 i purchased a 1957 ford novice car that had ran at Saugus.guess what number i picked? 597 of course. perhaps i have rattled on a bit to long however i felt the need to just say how much i admired the man, the race car and of of course his abilities on the track and his friendship. it goes without saying that i will miss him to the degree that words just cant describe. and to Ron jr.,the entire Hornaday family, my prayers are with you all and MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
