| Ronald "Ron" Witz 69, of Tucson passed away the morning of Aug 19th, 2006. He is survived by his loving wife Jane of 30 years. Ron is also survived by his sons Scott of Las Vegas, Nev., Craig (Cheryll) and Steve, both of Tucson, and daughter Lori, also of Tucson. He is also survived by his three Grandsons Ryan, Kevin, and Wesley. He is also survived by his brothers in law Mike (Sandy) and Billy (Roxy) Brown, both from Oracle, AZ, and many nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.
Ron was born Sept 11th, 1936 in South Bend, Indiana and moved to Tucson at the age of 12. After graduating from Tucson High School in 1955, Ron began working for Hughes Aircraft in June of 1955 until his retirement in 1991. Ron was an active member of the Local Machinist Union 933 and just received his 50 yr award for his service in the union. Ron's passion was auto racing and he raced many years locally. He was the Claimer division Champion in 1974 at Corona Speedway and also served as President of Tucson Auto Cycle Racing Assoc in the mid-70's. He served as Race Director at Raven Raceway and later became the pace car driver for 12 yrs after the track was changed to Tucson Raceway Park. In 2001, Ron was inducted into the Tucson Racers Hall of Fame. The local racing community will miss him dearly. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug 23rd, at 3 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, 1655 S. Melpomene Way, East of Houghton rd between 22nd and Old Spanish Trail.
