| MESA, Arizona -- Two teens are in police custody for allegedly killing two young boys and critically injuring their mother in a hit-and-run.
Maricopa County sheriff's deputies say Travis Cuevas, 18, and a 17-year old were arrested after they ran a stop sign and slammed into a family's car near Elliot and Sossaman on Friday night. Sheriff's deputies say that after the wreck the two suspects took off running so a helicopter was called out to track them down. At this point investigators say alcohol was a factor. M.A.D.D. spokesperson Ericka Espino tells 3TV, “We’re heartbroken at the fact that some innocent lives had to be lost because of a choice that people made to drink and drive.” A friend of the family tells 3TV the two young boys ages 6 and 11 were pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators say they are trying to figure out which teen, the 18 or 17-year-old, was behind the wheel at the time of the crash. Source 3TV |
