John Baker of Tucson, Ariz. captured his first NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series pole at Irwindale Speedway with a quick lap of 17.711 seconds around the multi-grooved half-mile track.
Baker lost his life competing in a NASCAR Southwest Tour race at the Irwindale Speedway in 2002. He was the Bud Pole winner for that race, it was his second pole at that track.
