Rick Ware Driver Bio
A native of Southern California, driver Rick Ware grew up in a racing environment. His father, a racer himself, got Rick racing early in life. Living in Houston, Texas. At the age of 9, he began racing bicycle motorcross. It was a few short years and several championship titles later, Rick was trading two-wheels in for four.
From the astrodome in the 70's to Riverside International Raceway in the 80's, Ware raced his way to the SCCA Rookie-of-the-Year title in 1983. That same year he made his NASCAR debut, finishing 3rd in a Winston Cup Series companion race at Riverside. Rounding out a decade of road course racing, Ware was ready to make another transition in his racing career. He relocated to North Carolina.
In 1990, Ware had another goal to pursue; the desire to go big time circle track racing. NASCAR was growing and after his short-term experiences in the Southwest Tour Series, Ware knew that NASCAR was where he wanted to be. It was that same year that he made his Winston Cup and Busch Series debut. By 1991, Ware became a car owner/driver and quickly learned the business side of team ownership. The top touring divisions of NASCAR were becoming more competitive and costly to operate. Sponsorship funding was necessary to stay competitive. Ware operated a NASCAR late model and Busch Series team from 1991 to 1996. Not having sponsorship support, Ware was still able to tour in three states with his late model team capturing several pole positions and wins. In 1995 the Busch Series team made appearances at Atlanta and Charlotte with limited sponsorship funding. Part failures in both events caused less than desirable results. In the fall of that year, Ware got his first super-speedway top-10 finish in the ARCA series Hoosier 500K at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. In the spring of 1996, Ware continued his late model campaign at various North Carolina tracks. The team had also prepared a Winston Cup car for the Watkins Glen event that June. At a pre-race test session, a high impact crash had emergency personnel cutting the car apart to free Ware. After being airlifted to a local hospital, tests and observation showed Ware suffered minor injuries and a bruised checkbook. Ware began the 1999 season competing in the NASCAR Winston West Series but changed to NASCAR Craftsman Trucks mid season. He competed in limited Winston West events once he began racing in the truck series.
