Tony Schmidt Driver Bio
Schmidt Racing, Inc. is a family owned business committed to racing.

The hobby/business started in 1994 by the Schmidt family. From a single car operation the now business, has developed into a full fledge racing team and operates out of two locations. One location houses the Winston West Racecars and the other location is the main office. The team will be traveling the west coast and the mid-west.

This adventure started when Tony Schmidt, their son went motorcycle racing in 1985. In 1994 Tony, who was currently working with the family construction business, expressed to his parents that he wanted to make racing a career. Of course, Tony had to come up with the necessary cash to purchase this first car. At the time he made this decision, he was rebuilding an old shop truck his father had used and decided to sell it. Mom, not wanting the truck to leave the family decided to purchase it from Tony. With money in hand, Tony went to purchase his first Late Model Stock Car. Now that he had the car, he needed a crew to assist him in the assembly. He turned to the assistance of an uncle and neighborhood friends in his community.

In 1995 he began living his dream and raced in the NASCAR Late Model Division at Portland Speedway. In his first year of racing he managed to win the title of Rookie of the Year. The amazing thing is that Tony accomplished this title with a car setup for dirt and not pavement. This was discovered at the end of the season when the family sold the car. At one event, he was given the name Spinner Schmidt because he kept spinning out.

Tony continued racing at Portland Speedway the next five years competing in the Late Model Division and in some various NW Tour races. During these five years, Tony developed a smooth and consistent driving style. This led him to become a regular top five contender each and every time he went racing. He finished 3rd in points in 1999 and 2000 season.

With the decision of local track operators at Portland Speedway to convert the track from pavement to dirt, Tony was left with a career decision. Wanting to continue his NASCAR career, the family decided to compete full time. Not wanting to move everything, his family decided that the Winston West Series would be the natural transition.
