DARRELL LAMOURE TAKES TIME TO RELAX
 FEATHERLITE SOUTHWEST SERIES

Darrell LaMoure It isn't very often that a radio talk show co-host actually puts his foot where his mouth is, but NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series driver, Darrell LaMoure, is doing just that.

On the track, LaMoure lets his feet do all the talking. But off the track he is the co-host of Racing Roundup-Arizona, which can be heard Monday from 7-8 p.m. MST on KGME 1360 AM and on the Internet at http://www.accessarizona.com/partners/kgme/.

Where does LaMoure find time to relax with this busy schedule...well, his racecar, of course!

RacingWest: Why do you race?
Darrell LaMoure: Believe it or not for relaxation! It also keeps me cool on the highways during my day to day driving.

RW: What drives you?
DL: While every sport has the "team work" theory and it applies to a level, the fact is that when the green drops all we as drivers have is the machine under us and the spotter helping with traffic scenarios. It gets pretty intense and things happen very quickly, the battle is on and we react rather than act. This drives me! Reaction to the unknown.

RW: Who are your heroes outside of racing?
DL: Well two come to mind, 1) my Mother, raising four boys, who are all successful and if you have met my Father you know why my Mom gets the vote. 2) The man that has gained my respect outside my family would be whom I believe will be our first black president General Collin Powell, after the Desert Storm conflict and reading his book I find him intriguing to say the least.

RW: Does driving this style of car scare you at anytime?
DL: Anyone who says these cars don't scare them at one point or another is full of it. Yes, at times I scare myself. This is cool!

RW: Did any of your family drive before you?
DL: Yes, I've heard of the driving experience my Father talks of in the fifties and he tells me he can drive my car as good or better than me. I'm afraid to let him try, he might show me up?

RW: Did you make a New Years Resolution?
DL: Lots of them, just like years past but, I made them a little more obtainable this year.

RW: Is there any rule you would like to see added or removed from the Series?
DL: I would like to see NASCAR loosen up with the adjustability during pit stops, put more involvement back on the teams shoulders. Example: Rear roll centers (j-bar) we can't adjust from outside the cars like the other NASCAR series do. ####
