| WINSTON WEST SERIES |
A familiar face in the NASCAR Winston West Series will be helping fight a growing problem in North America during the Winter Heat 200 in Tucson Arizona this weekend. Victoria B.C. Canada's Lance Wade will carry the "Stop Youth Violence" message on the side of his Ford Thunderbird during this weekend's event, which will be televised live on ESPN 2. In November of 1997, in Lance Wade's home of Victoria B.C. a young, 14 year old girl by the name of Reena Virk was beaten to death by a group of teenagers. From this tragedy arose the Rock Solid program, formed by a group of area Police Officers to help fight youth violence. The Rock Solid program travels to area schools and sends the message the violence is not the answer and do not be scared to bring the police into a situation. Lance Wade became involved by donating space on his Chevrolet Lumina Late Model which he raced at Victoria's Western Speedway in 1998. The Rock Solid Race Car had a huge impact on youth, making them pay attention to the message being conveyed to them. Once again in 1999 Lance Wade will be affiliated with the Rock Solid Program and hopes to do his part to raise awareness for this growing problem.
