PHOENIX IS CRAFTON'S NEXT TARGET
 FEATHERLITE SOUTHWEST SERIES

Matt Crafton

Matt Crafton, 22, is equipped to race Phoenix International Raceway's 22nd annual Copper World Classic. With help from his dad, Danny Crafton, M. Crafton is ready to take Phoenix by storm.

With a strong run at the series opening event at Tucson Raceway Park, he is ready to let some momentum carry him to his first career super-speedway victory.

RacingWest: What’s your favorite part about racing at the Copper Classic and what significance does the Copper World Classic have in your career as a driver?
Matt Crafton: My favorite part is the speed! The significance is that it is a tough

RW: Considering that PIR has two distinctly different corners, which do you, set your car up for to be the best you can or can you get both?
MC: We set our car up for both corners.

RW: Track record being a 27.386 held by Hornaday from the 1995 CWC, do you feel that this record will go down this year and how will you do it?
MC: I don't think that the track record will go down this season.

RW: NASCAR has a new Monte Carlo body this year (straight up). Do you feel this is an advantage on the PIR mile?
MC: No, I don't think that the Monte Carlo has an advantage. I think most of it is what is under the body, rather then the body itself. Although the body is also important.

RW: Since this is only a 50-lap race, will it be 50 flat out or will you have to conserve the car a little?
MC: No, it is just a sprint race.

RW: If you could compare Phoenix to any other track the Series races on, which one would it be?
MC: Phoenix is the best because it separates the men from the boys.

RW: What is your goal, Win? Exposure? Experience?
MC: I want to win, but gain exposure at the same time.

RW: What advantages can you offer a sponsor for this race over other teams?
MC: I could provide a sponsor with a good strong finish (usually consistent at PIR) and good exposure.

RW: What will you do now that there is not longer the Toolies/drivers get together on Thursday night before the race?
MC: We never went to the Toolies; we usually go to the Alaskan Busch Company. Most of the drivers usually go there, so we still get to hang out with the other drivers.

RW: Do you have any sightseeing planned during your trip to Phoenix?
MC: As apart of my sight seeing, I will be watching the other drivers in my rear view mirror. ####
