ARLINGTON, TX -- David Starr ended his 1998 season with a top-10 finish in a Winston West race at Las Vegas. He plans to begin the 1999 campaign exactly the same way - even going so far as to use the same car on the same track. "We started 30th last November," Starr said. "We raced hard and worked through the field to finish seventh. We were thrilled since that was the first time I had ever competed in the Winston West Series. "Our goal for the upcoming Orleans 150 is to qualify better and finish higher," said the driver of the #35 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. "We plan to prove that our run last year was no fluke." This will be the second career Winston West start for Starr and he plans to race the same car he used last November. This car has a "day job" as a training vehicle in the Team Texas High Performance Driving School and "moonlights" as a race car on weekends. "Our race car is a school car," Starr said. He is a part-time instructor at the driving school that is owned by his uncle, Mike Starr. "Fans can come out to Texas Motor Speedway and drive this car. I don't know of any other race car in any series that the fans can drive so I guess that makes it kind of unique," Starr said with a laugh. "I just tend to get real nervous when someone is taking it for a spin since it races so well, but Mike won't let me take it out of service." Big Daddy's BBQ Sauces will sponsor Starr for this event. This marks the first time the two have paired together on the track, though Big Daddy's has been involved with other race teams. The Orleans 150 is the second event on the Winston West schedule and will be held at the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 5th. It is scheduled for 100 laps. Starr, a resident of Arlington, Texas, also races the #9 Chevrolet Silverado in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. For more information visit his web site at www.davidstarr.com.
