BITS FROM BAKERSFIELD
LATE MODEL, MODIFIED STOCK AND STREET STOCK SERIES

BAKERSFIELD, CA -- Last Saturday at Mesa Marin, Greg Pursley had fast time, but didn't even make it out of the dash, he hit the turn 3 wall and was done for the night. Kevin Vernon won the main. He had led by a straightaway but two yellows came out during the last 5 laps, still no one could catch Vernon.

Mike Alsup was running second, he took a shot in Turn 3 but Vernon drove away. Jerry Cain and JR Jones had a few heated discussions throughout the night in the main, but nothing except a couple of bumps during a yellow. Jones was third, Mike Duncan, fourth and Rick Bogart was fifth. Bogart was using Trimmer's crew.

Eighteen cars showed up, but 5 of them were visitors; Jason Small, Rick Bogart, Brendan Gaughan, Jerry Cain, and Greg Pursley. It looks like Irwindale is already having a huge impact on Mesa Marin. On the "so-so" side, the turn 1 grandstand is being constructed as we speak. It is reminiscent of turn 6 at Riverside. It' s huge! However, heard around the pits, some say it was supposed to be done by this weekend. I'm sure Marion Collins will have it ready by the 9th. Danny Collins won the Modified Stock main and Mike Riale won the Street Stock main ####
