CARSON WOODS HOPES LUCK IS ON HIS SIDE
 FEATHERLITE SOUTWEST SERIES

#39 - Carson Woods

EL CAJON, CA -- Entering the 1999 Featherlite Southwest Series season, Carson Woods knew that there would be highs and the lows that are inevitable in the sport auto racing. No one would have guessed that the lows would come so fast and hard. He started off by missing the highly anticipated Winter Heat race at Tucson. Just when the team was ready to head to Phoenix International Raceway for the Copper World Classic, Woods had an allergic reaction to some medication that he was taking. The end result had the team staying home and missing the second race-in-a-row.

Hopefully the team has got all of their bad luck out of the way early and can focus on the task at hand, racing. This weekend Woods can head into the Coors Light 125 at Cajon Speedway reassured that his bad luck might be a thing of the past.

RW: If you were at the Copper World, do you still have a car to race at Cajon?
CW: I wasn't able to make it to PIR as I had an allergic reaction to medication, but we are ready for El Cajon!

RW: How has your team used their "free time" with almost 2 months between races?
CW: We have worked very hard at dialing the car in, making all of the necessary adjustments in to be very competitive at El Cajon. We were able to go to the new Irwindale Speedway and practice as well as El Cajon. We have tested and I feel we are the best we have ever been.

RW: What do you like the most about racing at Cajon?
CW: Since I have been there and tested this week I like the way the track feels.

RW: On a scale of 1 to 10 what would you rate Cajon overall?
CW: Probably a 6, I prefer to race half mile tracks and larger.

RW: How will your team be the "team to beat" in Cajon?
CW: Excellent tire management and to keep the car away for wrecks.

RW: Will you be excited to get back to the short tracks?
CW: Yes, because that is where I started from originally.

RW: Will your team be using a different racecar for this short track than it did in Phoenix?
CW: We use one car at this time due to the fact we are a new team.

RW: Does qualifying matter here?
CW: Yes, it is very important as only 20 cars make the race here, and we need to qualify up front to stay out of trouble.

RW: What's your favorite memory of you racing at Cajon or racing in general at Cajon?
CW: When I was racing my pro 4 and hurt our engine in practice and stayed up all night building a new one in the hotel parking lot.

RW: Do you have any new sponsors or team members you'll be introducing at Cajon?
CW: Yes, a new team member, Craig Edwards and he just got back from a Winston Cup school in North Carolina and we feel he is going to be a great asset to our team.

RW: Will you or your team be enjoying the sites in San Diego, and if so, which ones?
CW: No we will be concentrating on racing.

RW: What hotels do you recommend?
CW: Best Western
650 N. Mollison Ave
El Cajon, Ca.
619-442-0601
Which we have stayed at in the past, as they know how to treat us racers.

RW: What NASCAR official has the best sense of humor?
CW: Margie, she brightens my day when I first sign in! ####
