CHANGES ON THE HORIZON 04 MARK REED
 FEATHERLITE SOUTHWEST SERIES

Food-4-Less

Mark Reed has changed his car number from 73 to 04 in recognition of their sponsor Food 4 Less. For 1999, RMS will be competing in 16 events with Food 4 Less as their primary sponsor. Reed feels that he is headed in the right direction. With strong support from his sponsors as well as his fans, the competition should watch out for the #04 to be tearing up the NASCAR tracks.

For more information on scheduling, fan club, or merchandise please contact Reed Motorsports at 661 863 0404 or E-mail at teamrms@aol.com.

RacingWest: How do you feel about running as a support division for the Trucks and WW?
Mark Reed: I think running as a support race for the Craftsman Truck Series is a great opportunity for the Southwest Series. Are sponsors love the increased visibility, but I enjoy comparing my program to that of a top caliber racing team and striving to reach that same excellence.

RW: Do you feel your driving skills may be noticed and land you an opportunity?
MR: I would love to think that is a possibility and hope that someday I may enjoy the same success as a Ron Hornaday. But for right now Team RMS is trying to build its own program and with the help from great sponsors such as Food 4 Less and JH Sims Trucking, we are confident that we will reach our goals.

RW: Being the race is on Friday, does this create a problem with your employer?
MR: No I am fortunate that for the last two years I have been able to work for the race team full time.

RW: If you are fast, you come up on the lap traffic pretty quick on a short track. How tough is it to work the lap traffic and what are your secrets?
MR: Lap traffic is always a concern but at Mesa Marin there are two distinct grooves and is very important to make sure that your car works well on both the top and bottom.

RW: Will you be entering any other races at Mesa Marin during the weekend?
MR: No our team will be focusing on just the Southwest Series event this weekend. However I will be spotting for Jerry Cain on Sunday for the Winston West race.

RW: Which track holds the highest prestige for you Mesa Marin with its history and million-dollar improvements or the new Irwindale Speedway and why?
MR: Mesa Marin without question because it is my home track and the local fans that have always supported me and my team. Mesa is where we also won our first Southwest Series race.

RW: What's your favorite memory of Mesa Marin?
MR: Winning the 1996 Firecracker 100.

RW: Who do you see as this year's toughest competition in the Series and why?
MR: There are a number of though teams every year but I think you have to watch out for Jim Inglebright, Steve Portenga, Kurt Busch, and Kevin Harvick to name just a few.

RW: Which Winston Cup driver do you hold the most respect for and why?
MR: Alan Kulwicki (underbird) for his accomplishments without being a second-generation driver or the support of a wealthy family member or financial backer. He truly did it on his own. ####
