The two cars were running qualifying extremely well Rick (Carelli) qualified forth and John (Metcalf) qualified 17th. We hoped to have a chance to practice more and change shocks and springs after qualifying but we got rained out. I think we have a really good chance because the slower cars haven't had a chance to make any changes. So I think by the end of the race you will see both of these cars running up front.
John Metcalf
Well probably the biggest thing is the first few laps let things get sorted out, kind of see where everybody is at. Try and find somebody to get hooked up with and run with, stay out of trouble work our way up towards the front of the pack hopefully the last 15-20 laps race with them to the win.
Brandon Ash
We are planning on kind of picking our way through the field we had a little problem with qualifying with the tires in the wrong place. I think we've got a good car for a top five or top ten for sure. We've just got to be patient, we've just got to work our way up through the field make it to the first pitstop make a few adjustments. Hope we have a shot to win.
Ken from Dean Kuhn's Team
The car was in an accident we are thankful the car made the field. Our main number one goal is to keep the driver safe and keep the car in one piece. Let him do the best that he can and just get experience.
Sammy Potashnick
I'm starting 27th its going to take a whole tightening for my car just to work its way back up to the top ten. I think once we get up to the top ten lap 50 is our goal and we are going to go racing from there.
Gary Smith
It's been a real bizarre weekend for me. We got the car late we went out and qualified Bernie Hailer's car. Got two laps in it so far and those were qualifying. We had no practice yesterday, so I'm not one hundred percent sure how I'm going to do. I think this car is very well prepared. It has a good motor, a good crew put together and Bernie Hilber as the crew chief. You are going to see us running up at the front at the end of this race.
I'm predicting a top five finish for this team. It's great to be racing here at the California Speedway in front of the NASCAR Busch and the NASCAR Winston Cup teams. I'm just excited to be in this race. I came down here with my helmet in hand, with no ride and now I'm sitting in a racecar that's real fast. I'm excited and we just have to play our hand right.
Mike Chase
Well, I hope we're going to win. That's the whole deal. The biggest thing we have to do is display a lot of patience I'd love to win here but at the same time I would love to win that championship. I would love to win that championship. Our team is working real hard toward that championship. We are just going to try to put ourselves in a position to be there at the end and if we are we will go for the win.
David Starr
When we got here we had a three-hour practice session. By the time we got through inspection we were running a little bit behind. When we finally got out on the racetrack we started out slow gradually getting use to the track and checking our car out.
Our first 30 minutest we were out there we were 27th or 28th fast. I didn't like the way the car was going into the corners. The car was real darty going into one and three. We kept bringing the car in and working on it, making adjustments. Finally after working on it we got the car up to where we were about twelfth quick, at that point we got back on the racetrack to see if we could go a little bit quicker and my car developed a push. We tried to fix the push for the exit out of two and four it was really pushing badly. We worked on it and worked out it and could never get rid of it. We had about fifteen minutes of practice left and I told my Uncle Mike (Starr) that nothing we were doing seemed to be helping it get through the corner, he looked at the rear of the car and the rear sway bar had come apart.
We weren't sure when the sway bar came off so we were really guessing for qualifying. But we decided to just hook it up and go out there and qualify I didn't think we had that good of a qualifying run, it felt like the car was still pushing out there. I came in and they said that we were about 6th place, so I was kind of excited. Coming down pitroad after I qualified the engine made a noise. I got to excited about the good qualifying run I forgot to mention the engine was making a noise until later that evening. About 5 minutes before they were kicking us out of the garage area I told Mike I think we better crank up that motor, when we did we knew right away we had an engine problem. So we scrambled and we rented a motor from a company called CRD out of North Carolina. All we can do is cross our fingers and hope for the best. The last happy hour was rained out. So right now looks good. We can only hope this motor was as good as the last one. We are excited; I'd love to win. Just hopefully we are going to have a good race. I'm ready for it.
Sean Woodside
Big crash and we'll miss it and maybe we will win the race.
Joe Nava
I think today we are going to have a pretty good run. We had a little bad luck qualifying, but we are confident the crew has got it repaired. We are looking to go straight to the front.
Kevin Richards
I think we are going to do real well in the race. We qualified well; we usually don't qualify that great on the bigger tracks. I think we will do real well. The Hoosiers tires are awfully good and Monaco Enterprises is going to make it happen.
Austin Cameron's crew chief, Dave Riggs
We expect to do really well finish in the top 3. We are going to be disappointed if we don't. We worked very hard. I think we are going to do great things the rest
