BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Memorial Day holiday has become motorsports biggest weekend of the year. Mesa Marin Raceway will be no exception as it will host the two-day Memorial Day Classic. Featuring two full days of NASCAR competition, with over $150,000.00 in prize money to be awarded. Saturday's schedule is headlined by the NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series "Coors 100", plus the NASCAR Winston Racing Series Late Model "Texaco Xpress Lube 100", the American City Racing League, and NASCAR Street Stocks. Racing will start on Saturday at 7:00pm. Sunday will feature the NASCAR Winston West Series "Forum Marketing 200", which will be nationally televised by the Speedvision Network on July 19, at 6:00pm. The NASCAR Winston Racing Series Late Models will return on Sunday for the "Mechanix Wear 100". Racing on Sunday will start at 6:00pm. The weekend will be filled with over 600 laps of competition, plus many festivities throughout the weekend, including a beer tasting and bratwurst feast, a charity motorcycle ride, big screen televisions for viewing the Charlotte and Indy races. Bakersfield's Kevin Harvick, who now drives full-time on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will make a rare appearance behind the wheel of a car instead of his Porter-Cable Ford F-150 this weekend. Harvick, who is currently sixth in the 1999 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series point standings, will be behind the wheel of a NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series car on Saturday at Mesa Marin, and will pull double duty on Sunday competing in both the Winston West and Late Model Stock Car events.
