DAVID GILLILAND FACES A MINOR SET BACK

David Gilliland

BAKERSFIELD, CA -- David Gilliland grew up in and around the world of Motorsports. His first major accomplishment was as crew chief where he played a vital role aiming his father, Butch Gilliland, to the 1997 NASCAR Winston West Series Championship. David has since handed over his crew chief responsibilities to another, in an attempt to pursue his own racing career. Although, still a significant part of the Ralph's/Food4Less Race Team his father drives for, David is now able to focus some of his efforts on his own program and it has certainly paid off!

David has proven his driving capabilities by winning Perris Speedway in the street stock division 4 times in the 1999 season alone. He also competes on a limited schedule in the NASCAR Winston West Series. Last weekend he qualified his car 8th on the field for the Forum Marketing 200 Winston West Race at Mesa Marin Raceway. He was optimistic of getting a decent finish at the event, but a racing incident at the start of the race took him out of contention early.

Not daunted by a minor setback, David will be at the next NASCAR Winston West race at the Irwindale Speedway. It will be an inaugural event and there is a high car count expected. It may not be an easy field to make, but odds are David will get his #11 Ralph's/Food4Less Thunderbird in the show.
