No, it wasn't the most spectacular weekend the # 4 Southwest Tenant Development & Stick Only Pontiac team will ever have. But considering what's happened for them over the course of the 1999 season, the last 2 weeks top-ten finishes have certainly been a much needed boost for the team.
Dyer has been one of less than ten drivers managing to make the field after every race. Still, he has had a roller coaster year. Damaging his car during a qualifying run at Irwindale, the team has worked extra hard to get him back on track. They have done a great job getting the handling back in the car and their driver back up front.
Dyer and the team currently sit 5th in the standings after last Saturday's race. Dyer hopes to be able to continue that momentum next Saturday in the next NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Tour event at Rocky Mountain Raceway.
Team: Southwest Tenant Development & Stick Only FSWT #4
Car #: 4
Driver: Dennis Dyer
Owner: Robert Farmer
RacingWest: How do you and the team balance your working and racing efforts?
Dennis Dyer: I, personally, am very fortunate that I have a very understanding team owner, crew, and employer. I am very dedicated to the owners of the company that I manage, Magic Plastics Inc. We are a Custom Injection Molding subsidiary of Flo Control, what I would consider our parent proprietary company, for having the patience of affording me the time that I need for my racing interests. Also, thanks to my car owner, Robert Farmer, and crew, led by Clay Winchester & Sonny Shelley, for their understanding of my other obligations.
RW: Will you be able to make every race this month?
DD: Absolutely! We are ready to complete the 'June Madness Schedule' that NASCAR has presented us. While June is definitely booked, our officials have taken into consideration the hot summer months that have been overlooked in the past. My hats off to them, particularly Danny Grill, for realizing that the summer months can wreak havoc on crewmembers and drivers as well.
RW: Has the schedule had any impact on your points?
DD: Hard to say. Right now, we're attempting to continue what we've already started. We're looking for consistent top 5 finishes. There's no doubt that we're ready for a win, but consistent top 5 finishes help a lot in a points race.
RW: What is your regular job?
DD: I am the General Manager of a Custom, and Proprietary, Plastic Injection Molding Company. While my responsibilities are very diversified, I am deeply appreciative of all of the opportunities that I have been afforded.
RW: What are your expectations for Rocky Mountain Speedway?
DD: Another top 5, at least! We, the team, always enjoy the opportunity to race on a level playing field. In that the FSWT has never been there, we always look forward to a new challenge. Particularly when we've never been there. We have always prided ourselves in our abilities to adapt to a new racetrack, at least as well as our closest competition!
DD: In closing, the Southwest Tenant Development, Stick Only, FSWT Racing Team #4 sincerely appreciates the opportunity to voice our subjective opinions. We absolutely look forward to the challenges that approach us, and look forward to all of the experiences that we will endure.
RW: And the fans look forward to another season of cheering on this much admired, long running team as the momentum from the previous races carries them on.
