FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT RACING AT MAGIC VALLEY SPEEDWAY

TWIN FALLS, IDAHO -- The only two-night race of the season was completed this weekend and produced exciting racing both nights. Friday was KAT Kountry / Mix 103 night and the Gertie's Western States Midgets were on hand for some fast close racing action. Rory Price led all qualifiers at 13.74 seconds in McDonalds time trials. This was the fastest lap turned by a Midget in several years at the Speedway. Racing action started with Rick Kraft winning the A heat ahead of John Starks and Ken Ferris. The B heat went to Travis Johnson trailed by Steve Spoor and Chuck Rude. The main event finishing order was John Starks, Rory Price, Travis Johnson, Rick Kraft and Ken Ferris.

The NASCAR Winston Racing Series Mountain Dew Modifieds were in action both nights. On Friday night Rick Corbridge showed the field the fast way home winning the heat race over Harold Wartluft and John Newhouse then led all the way to take his first main event win since 1994. Rick never misses a race and it was a crowd favorite to see him take the fifty-lap win, his first since his 1994 championship year for the class. Rounding out the top five were Steve Jones, Newhouse, Bruce Quale and Brett Thompson. The next night was Kellogg's night at the races and Doug Dugger was the winner of the fifty lap main event. Steve Jones pushed him throughout the race but had to settle for second. Next to the finish were Quale, Newhouse and Thompson. Newhouse followed by Quale and Dugger won the heat. After eight weeks of the 1999 season Bruce Quale leads the standings by just four points over Steve Jones.

The Budweiser Street Stocks were also in action both nights. Norm Hatke started it out Friday night with a win in the A heat and then followed it up with a win from deep in the field in the 35 lap main event. The race featured cars running side by side lap after lap. Clay Bagley finished second, his best effort in his rookie season, and Dale Miles, Thomas Powell and Don VanSchoiack completed the top five. Jeramee Coates and Jeff Meads finished behind Hatke in the A heat. Vanschoiack held off Powell and Bagley in the B heat. Saturday night's racing saw a tangle between Michelle Meads and Don VanSchoiack on the backstretch that ended the evening for both drivers. The accident looked quite spectacular as Mead's car ended up on top of the barrier. Neither driver was injured. Her husband Jeff was in the lead of the race when the accident happened and held on to take the win in the 35 lap main event making the eveing better for the Mead racing duo. The rest of the top five was Powell, Hatke, Doug Carpenter, and Clay Bagley. The A heat went to Dan Doan trailed by Hatke and Carpenter. The B heat results were Bagley, Jeff Meads and Powell. Norm Hatke remains at the top of the season standing after the two nights of racing.

The NAPA Auto Parts Pony Stocks returned to action Saturday night and Todd Audet powered his way to the front for the win of the 25 lap main event trailed by David Caldwell Jr., Mike Prara, Larry Morris and David Caldwell Sr.. The A heat was won by Billi Miles with Caldwell Jr. and Shawn Nice in tow. The B heat was Audet, Alan Larson and Prara. Billi Miles sits at the top of the season point standings but David Caldwell Jr. is just one point behind,

Dairy Queen Thunder Stock action saw Jerry Rice take his first win of the season ahead of Mike Greco, Jason Stewart, Benny Benjamin and Bruce Kubik. Kubik won the A heat and Rice won the B heat.
