ANAHEIM, CA -- This Saturday Butch Gilliland and The Ralphs/Food 4 Less Race Team will run the inaugural NASCAR Winston West Race at the new Irwindale Speedway, where they hope to be the first team to set the tracks first records.
The Ralphs/Food 4 Less Race Team is coming off their first win of the season, going into this race at Irwindale, and they plan to bring their winning car to the track to do the job a second time. "This is going to be a great track to race on, said Butch on Tuesday, at the media day event held by the track. "This race track is the equivalent of a Fontana, just a quarter of the size!" Irwindale Speedway is Southern California's newest ½ mile race track, and with banking as high as 12 degrees, the racing is sure to be exciting. Earlier this year Butch was invited to be one of the first drivers to take a lap around the track and give input on the surface and it's development. On Tuesday Butch attended the tracks media day event to promote the upcoming race and the new speedway.
Last week the team tested at Bakersfield for the upcoming race at Irwindale, and will be making the final preparations to the car this week. "We need to figure out what the best approach on the new track surface will be", said Butch. "It sounds like the track may be a little hard on tires." The team has been hard at work getting their race cars into tip top shape for the next two weeks of racing.
