Twin Falls, Idaho -- Bruce Quale came from his eighth place starting position to take the lead early in the fifty lap Mountain Dew Modifieds NASCAR Winston Racing Series feature. He never looked back on his way to the checkered flag. His closest pursuer was John Newhouse trailed by Rick Corbridge, Harold Wartluft and Dana Pruett. Wartluft won the heat race followed by Newhouse and Quale. Quale led all qualifiers in McDonalds time trials at 15.36 seconds. Quale had a great night and Steve Jones was caught up in an accident and he now leads Jones by 19 points in the season standings.
Twenty four Cactus Petes Intermountain Super Stocks were on hand tonight and Jeff Hillock qualified number one at 14.31 seconds. He then won the A heat trailed by Don Beamis and Jeff Flynn. The order of finish in the B heat was Randy Hardman, Jim Waters and John Nesmith. The C heat went to Russell Butler followed by Scott Lynch and Clint Kidd. The fifty lap main event was marred by many caution periods but when it ended it was Kevin Stauffer up front with Joel Butler, John Nesmith, Jeff Flynn and Scott Lynch in his wake.
Don VanSchoiack of Kuna, Idaho won his first Budweiser Street Stock main event of the year. A week ago he loaded up his wrecked Dodge and with a lot of work had it back and running just great. The balance of the top five was Brian Welch, Tom Powell, Dale Miles and Jeff Meads. The A heat went to Miles followed by Norm Hatke and VanSchoiack. The finishing order in the B heat was Randy Price, Welch and Doug Carpenter. Hatke holds on to the season point lead.
David Caldwell Jr. won the NAPA Auto Parts Pony Stock main event and then rolled his fathers number in the drawing for a NAPA $100 gift certificate. David Caldwell Sr. finished 8th. Gene Goodfellow was a close second at the finish with Billi Miles, Ron Revels and Alan Larson making up to top five. It was Revels, Goodfellow and Shawn Nice in the heat race. The win vaulted David Caldwell Jr. into the season point lead.
The Western Custom Race Trucks were also in action completing a full night of racing at Idaho's only NASCAR sanctioned track. In the main it was Nick Lynch showing the way over Randy Hadlock, Gary Young, Dan Pehrson and Dick Cox. Cox won the heat trailed by Lynch and Jason Newhouse.
