IRWINDALE, California -- To all of you who did not get a chance to stop by and see Mike after Saturday nights race at Irwindale. He is doing fine. It was the first driver compartment fire Mike has ever had. hopefully the last. He was up and signing autographs after the race.
After starting Sixteenth Mike moved straight to the front. The People Against Drugs Chevy Monte Carlo was a sure contender for the win. after a good pit stop we were set to go the distance. The 18 car had moved back up to the fourth position when on lap 220 a fire started in the driver compartment.
It was a tense moment seeing the entire compartment engulfed in flames with Mike still inside. Quick thinking by the number 32 Jani King gas man no doubt saved mike from serious injuries.
The Green Light Racing Team sends out its gratitude to Donnie Butts for his quick thinking and response. With out regard to his own safety, he reached in unbuckled Mike and pulled him to safety.
Donnie from all of Green Light Racing, Mike Chase and all of our fans Thank You & See You in Monroe
