IRWINDALE, California -- Dean Kuhn was the last of the NASCAR Winston West drivers to qualify for the NASCAR Irwindale 250 Presented by Jan's Towing at this weekend's inaugural event. Kuhn had been set to qualify earlier, but a tire blew in practice sending Kuhn to the wall. He was not the only team to have a problem with tires heating up. The temperature on the track was exceptionally hot, but he was the only team to have to work so fast to get the car ready to qualify.
The car sustained major front-end damage and it could well have ended the day for the #13 Team 5 Star Chevrolet, but Kuhn was been fortunate to have a top notch pit team that was willing to extend the extra effort needed to get the car ready to race. As the clock counted down Kuhn just made it in time to qualify the car and capture the 8th place starting position.
Kuhn went on and finished the race without incident, just outside the top ten. Again, Kuhn and his team did a great job representing Team5Star and the series. The next race for the NASCAR Winston West Series is Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash.
