To race three days in a row, you have to love racing. Brendan Gaughan does. The enthusiastic Las Vegas (NV) driver will compete cross country in both an off-road event at Crandon, (WI) this Saturday and Sunday and then after two grueling days in the CORR off-road race he will fly to Salt Lake City to compete in the NASCAR Winston West event at Rocky Mountain Raceway on Labor Day.
Gaughan driver of the No. 20 Orleans Hotel and Casino Chevrolet is very upbeat about the Winston West race and the track at RMR. Unlike a number of tracks he has visited during his Winston West rookie campaign, he had a chance to test Rocky Mountain. What he learned in the test session could help him during the race. Although Gaughan had a nice top-ten finish at the last race, he wants more than just a finish, he is ready for a run to the front. With his reputation for conquering, at least once every division he enters, that just may happen.
RacingWest: Have you had a chance to test or drive Rocky Mountain Raceway? If yes, what was your opinion, if no what have you heard about it from others that have raced it?
Brendan Gaughan: Yes we tested there after the Portland race and the test was fantastic! The facilities are top notch and the track is in great condition.
RW: What track do you think RMR will most resemble and will you start off with your set-ups from that track?
BG: Well, it is a little like Tucson because of how short it is (3/8 mile) but it reminds me somewhat of Mesa Marin, quick turns with more straights. We will start with the set-up we tested with and will be ready to race.
RW: What are your hopes/expectations for Rocky Mountain Raceway?
BG: I'm tired of just finishing, its time to finish up FRONT!!!
RW: The Southwest Tour came back from their first event at RMR with nothing but good things to say about the enthusiastic fans and the track promoters. Are you excited to go to an event where they want to see you race that much?
BG: Of Course, that is what also makes Irwindale so fun. After hearing the stories of how much the fans in Salt Lake City like their racing, I guarantee they will be impressed with Winston West.
RW: This event has TV coverage are you selling this to sponsors?
BG: I didn't realize that it was on TV. But if I do well, heck yeah I'll use it for sponsors!
RW: Do you have any sight seeing plans lined up for this trip?
BG: We don't really have time for sightseeing. My team and I will be Off-Road Racing in Wisconsin on Saturday and Sunday and then will fly to Utah Sunday evening for Monday's race. That won't leave much time for a tour.
