ROCKLIN, California -- Austin Cameron and the #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS/NAPA Belts & Hose team won the final NASCAR Grand National Division West Series race of the season at Irwindale Speedway but came up just 16 points short of winning the 2004 championship title. Cameron qualified the #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Chevrolet in the 5th spot and by lap 75 of the “NAPA 150”, the team had moved up into second place. Twelve laps into the second half, Cameron took over the lead and never looked back to record a fifth win of the season. This adds a ninth top five to the #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS record at Irwindale with six wins in the past four years.

“We knew coming into this event, it was a long shot to win the championship,” said Cameron. “This level of competition really shows what makes a racer a racer and a winner a winner. The series champion, Mike Duncan is a great competitor and we had a lot of fun racing against him all year. We are looking forward to the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown and bringing our race partner, NAPA AUTO PARTS, back to back national touring titles.”

Kerry Earnhardt and the #20 NAPA Belts & Hose/NASCAR Select by NAPA Filter team qualified for the “NAPA 150” in the ninth spot and held on to a top ten position until lap 50. Earnhardt and crew chief, Mario Isola made the call to bring the #20 NAPA Belts & Hose Chevrolet to pit lane during the first caution of the night because the car was too tight. Back under green, Earnhardt climbed back up to tenth. By lap 110, Earnhardt had moved up to 7th and by lap 132, the #20 NAPA Belts & Hose Chevrolet was in the top five. With five laps to go, Earnhardt was three wide going into turn three when he got tangled up and spun. With rear end damage to the #20 NAPA Belts & Hose Chevrolet, Earnhardt finished the race on the lead lap in 13th. Earnhardt finished the season in 17th place in the series point standings. The #20 NAPA Belts & Hose/NASCAR Select by NAPA Filters team with drivers Clint Bowyer, John Moore, Jeff Jefferson, Kerry Earnhardt and Sarah Fisher finished the season in 6th place in the series team standings.
