FONTANA, California- Rebounding beautifully from a crash at the last race just 19 days ago, the Bell Motorsports/Kodak EasyShare team and drivers Terry Borcheller and Christian Fittipaldi were ninth-fastest in the first Rolex series practice session Friday morning at California Speedway. In the afternoon session the team fared even better, posting the eighth-fastest time.
The team's Kodak EasyShare DORAN JE4 Pontiac No. 54 was clocked in 1:32.791 (109.407 mph) in the morning and 1:33.423 (108.667 mph) in the hotter afternoon session.
Qualifying will be held tomorrow at 1:20 p.m. Sunday's race will be broadcast live on SPEED at 4 p.m. Eastern time.
"I'm completely thrilled that we're doing what we're doing, considering how the Kodak EasyShare car came off the track at Barber [Motorsports Park]," said Borcheller. "If you look at the different cars that took big hits this year, most of them weren't anywhere near where we are today in the first practice sessions after such a big accident. I mean we're right in the hunt; we're pretty close. The Bell Motorsports guys are amazing. For such a small team, there is some amazing depth on it."
"We definitely made progress today with the Kodak EasyShare car," Fittipaldi said. "The track was pretty slippery this afternoon. All and all I'm pleased. I think we have a good chance to qualify in the top four tomorrow, which would be really good."
Fittipaldi participated in an autograph session organized by the track at the Redlands Farmers' Market Thursday night.
Earlier in the day Thursday the team participated in a Hoosier tire test at the track.
