PEORIA, Arizona -- Canyon Raceway in Peoria Arizona is set to host the 16th annual Hollywood’s Body and Paint/Barnett Harley Davidson Desert Classic for IMCA type dirt modified stock cars. This year’s classic pays $5000 to the winner of Saturday night’s A-main. Entries from Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and several other states have been received as of October 31st.
The Classic is a non-sanctioned Modified event. IMCA and Border Racing Association cars are legal with no engine claim. Wednesday and Thursday November 3rd and 4th are set aside for practice on the 3/8’s mile clay oval. Friday November 5th will see heat races, the “Sunoco Dash for Cash” and qualifying mains for the Modifieds as well as a complete Dwarf Car program. Saturday November 6th will have the last chance race and semi mains for the Modifieds and another full program for the Dwarf Cars. This year’s classic has an added big dollar attraction as the Dwarf cars go for their own $5000 to win event on Saturday night.
Canyon Raceway recently ended their regular season and crowned champions in their weekly division’s for 2004. The IMCA Modified title went to Shawn Zelenka while George Fronsman took home the honors in the Super Stocks. The Pure Stock season winner was Mike Huneycutt, Bomber title went to John Muller and the Lady Stock winner was Shirley Seaton.
