PHOENIX, Arizona -- Burney Lamar accomplished two feats today on the one mile oval at Phoenix International Raceway during qualifying for the "Cruise America 125". First, he put the Groeniger/HPS Mechanical/Tri-C/Victory Circle Chassis Chevrolet on the pole with a time of 27.387 sec., out- qualifying a field of 47 NASCAR Elite Division Southwest Series entries.

Secondly, it was his fifth pole of the year, giving him his second Series Bud Pole Award for having the most Bud poles in a season. His first award was in 2002.

Tomorrows race, the last of the 2004 season for the Southwest Series, is scheduled to get under way at 3:30 pm MT.####
