Wow, 2004, what a great year for the Northwest Street Stock Tour! In our third season, the tour really expanded itself by taking on four new northwest tracks. Yakima Speedway, Tri-cities Raceway, Race City USA (Hermiston), and Cottage Grove are all great additions to our schedule. Along with the expansion in travel this season, also came an expansion in driver skills. Often times after the race is over we camp and watch video of our events. It's amazing to see the seamless motion of our drivers on both dirt and asphalt. The season highlight film was pretty boring without all the usual crash highlights! The NWSST drivers have alot of respect for each other and it shows on the track. I personally didn't have to replace or pound out a single body part all season! No bent wheels, buckled frames, crushed door panels, or even a single rivet! Respect for and from your competion is a must if you want to finish races.
It is impossible to celebrate without congratulating my team. This championship season would not have been possible without the guidance and skills of my father/Crew Chief Martin Stanwood. Having a 2 time Portland Speedway Champion and a 3 time Mechanic of the Year in your corner can be a great advantage. Without my dads experience and knowledge I would not be at the skill level I am today. I also need to mention my Spotter/Tire Man/Data Manager Jim Brown. This season we stepped up our game tremendously by recording more information about the car and the tracks. Data collected in the beginning of the season turned into multiple wins towards the end of the season. Lastly I need to thank my #1 sponsor B&M Engine Service for the power plant that propelled me to the Championship!
In 2005, I intend to move up to a Late Model Division. I also look forward to racing as many NWSST events that my schedule will allow. I encourage anyone in the northwest that owns or is interested is street stocks to join the Northwest Street Stock Tour. It is a great division to showcase your talents against some of the best drivers in the northwest!
Good luck to all in 2005,
Brad Stanwood;
