NEWPORT BEACH, California -- Myers Racing has had a busy six (6) weeks. Deciding, in early December, for driver Andrew Myers to compete in the Grand National West series full time in 2005. The new west team was put together while Andrew competed in the sixteen (16) day Dakar Rally. After Andrew got done battling the desert he returned to fit in a test session at Irwindale Speedway (California). “The team did a great job of getting everything ready to go” said the 24 year old Myers. “All I had to do was get in the car and go”. “Because of the prior commitment to the Rally there wasn’t much time to get ready for the Copper World Classic in Phoenix”.
In 2002 Myers visited Irwindale and caught the “NASCAR” bug. He then spent the next two (2) years racing Late Models at Irwindale, Mesa Marin and Las Vegas. Although Myers is relatively new to the NASCAR world, he has a history in racing dating back ten (10) years to Jet Ski’s. He then moved onto desert racing competing in Score-International sanctioned events such as the Baja 1000 and Baja 500.
Myers racing will again partner with Toyota of Escondido, the same sponsor
they had for both of their years in NASCAR Late Models. “Having a sponsor that
you’re use to working with makes the transition, to a new division, a little
easier” said Myers. “We don’t even need to get new crew shirts” he added
laughing.![]()
