CITRUS HEIGHTS, California -- Tim Smith of S and S Motorsports will not be running the number 33 Valliance Chevy Monte Carlo. He will be running the number 12 Valliance Chevy Monte Carlo. During his twenty plus years of racing, Smith has always tried to run the number 12. When he and fellow owner/driver Steve Schaefer entered the NASCAR Grand National West division at the end of the 2003 season, they had to use the number 33 because the 12 was spoken for.
“I’m really happy to be able to run the 12 again. Of course there is some sentimental attachments to the number like winning my first main event at All American Speedway (Roseville, Ca).”
The number 12 will make its debut for S and S Motorsports January 30 at the Copper World held at Phoenix International Raceway. It took some convincing, but Schaefer (who usually races at PIR for S and S) is giving up his seat and letting Smith drive. “It is usually just a given that I will be running at PIR, but during a team meeting talk of having Tim drive came about. I hate to give up my seat, but I feel that Tim can make a really good impact on this race for S and S Motorsports,” says Schaefer. “At least I’m not totally out of the racing loop for this weekend. I’ll be filling in for our jackman who will be competing in a marathon in Las Vegas.”![]()
