Davey Hamilton’s SRL “Wild West Shootout” Late Model Series has released their 2005 schedule. Five tracks have invited the series to visit their facilities creating a 12 race season. The 1/2 mile tracks of Altamont Raceway and Arena and Mesa Marin Raceway, the 1/3rd mile tracks of Madera Speedway and Shasta Raceway Park and the ¼ mile facility of Stockton 99 Speedway create a great diversity for the year. Altamont Raceway and Arena will kick off the SRL schedule on Saturday, March 19th.
Former Champions Steve Belletto, Ron Strmiska Jr., Jeff Anthony, and Nathan Tucker will be joined with past Rookie of the Year recipients Mark Smith, Ryan Foster, Rick Ruzbarsky, and Joey Zampa. Additionally, outstanding competitors such as Ken Boyd, David Philpott, Jeff Belletto, Ray Lawson Jr., Tracy Bolin, Dave Byrd, Troy Ermish, Aaron Days, Jason Fensler, and Jim Courage will make 2005 an extremely competitive season combined with no less than seven drivers competing for the prestigious Rookie of the Year Award.
The only changes in the program from previous seasons will be the starting field on the half mile tracks increased to 24 cars and a new testing policy for each race. Testing for each date will be sanctioned by the SRL and the track on the day before each event.
Through the sponsorship of Casciaro Homes of Stockton CA. and the SRL the purse monies have been increased by nearly $5,000.00 for each race and a point system for the qualifying race to attain a Qualifying Race Champion at the end of the season.
The “Wild West Shootout” series is also proud to announce that Jim Cook will assume the position of Race Director. Jim comes with experience as a Director of Competition, and has been an official for the last two seasons with the SRL. Jim relates to the future of the series and the family atmosphere the competitors have worked so hard to attain. His ability to maintain a level environment is what the members have grown to expect. This change will also allow Steve Fensler to work closely with Marketing Director Rick Gonzales to improve the SRL for the future. Wally Elane and Vickie Castle are the newest additions to our hard working officials for the 2005 season.
