CARSON CITY, Nevada -- The RPM Group of Nevada has announced plans to promote motorsports events at the Fuji Park Raceway (FPR) on Saturday nights in Carson City, NV.
FPR will host their 2005 "Media Day & Open House" on Saturday March 26 from 12noon - 4pm featuring test & tune sessions for all divisions. Admission will be free for spectators, food and beverages will be available for purchase, and bounce house will be available for all kids to enjoy.
Racing for real gets under way on Saturday, April 9 -- and will run thru October 22, for a total of eight exciting nights of Speedway action.
The new "Fuji Park Raceway" will feature a 1/10-mile decomposed granite oval track inside the rodeo arena and will offer a wide variety of youth and adult racing divisions.
On tap -- & for the first time ever in Carson City -- will be Pro Speedway Motorcycles. These extreme-style motorcycles weigh 185 lbs, are propelled by a 500cc four-stroke engine that runs on alcohol, and enjoy minimal suspension. Perhaps the most interesting -- or insane item about these extreme motorcycles is they can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less then three seconds and they have no brakes. Thats right race fans -- they race with absolutely no onboard brakes!
They control these unique European-based motorcycles with a combination of nerve, finesse, and throttle control. A typical Speedway format includes several heats, two semi mains and one main event. Winner takes all. The side-by-side full throttle action will certainly make for some memorable nights of racing at FPR.
Also on the dance card will be adult and junior Quads, youth Speedway, adult and junior Flat Track Motorcycles, and junior Go Karts.
The mini racers will be on center stage, as the new Pocket Rocket racing series, Ballistic Bicycle Races, and EconoBox Drags will do battle on the 1/10-mile dirt track.
Jeb Onweiler, who was the general manager at Champion Motor Speedway in 2003, has partnered with promoter Dave Joiner from Fast Friday Speedway in Auburn, CA to present the new Saturday night summer series.
Said Onweiler; "I'm real excited to have the opportunity to promote motorsports again in Carson City. Thanks to Dave Joiner and his seasoned staff, our junior and adult racers will get a fantastic opportunity to compete in a professionally supervised environment. I also want to thank Roger Moellendorf, Scott Fahrenbruch, Gail Schroeder, and Denny Howard from the Carson City Park & Recreation Department for helping us put this together. These are just some of the great folks whove been instrumental in getting this project off the ground. The fruits of their efforts will allow race fans in Northern Nevada and Central California to enjoy some thrilling Saturday night Speedway action".
Onweiler concluded with, "This new series will also serve as a fundraiser for the ongoing efforts to build the new Nevada Motorsports Center. With reports that Champion Speedway (in Carson City) will close down at the end of the 2005 season, theres a pressing need to build a new modern facility. This series will help provide the necessary funds to further that cause. The opportunity to satisfy two needs at the same time doesnt happen very often, so thats very gratifying indeed. So if anyone is interested in helping out, then please give Dave or myself a call."
