UPLAND, California -- 2004 Series Champion Lee Hatch, drove his No. 91 CMKXtreme.com/Go Fast ASA Speed Truck to victory at Irwindale Speedway Saturday night for the first race contested in the 2005 season.
The night started out with Hatch qualifying second out of the 34 entries with a lap time of 19.88 seconds. After the invert, he started the 75-lap main event on the inside of row two. Hatch and pole sitter Darren Young ran side by side for the first 10 laps of the race until the caution came out. Hatch lined up in the third position for the single file restart on lap 13 and by lap 14, he took over second place. For the next 12 laps, the No. 91 and the No. 1 truck of Justin Fischer battled for the lead. When the pair encountered lap traffic entering Turn 3, No. 91 choose the low line taking command of the race exiting Turn 4. Hatch remained in the lead taking the checkered flag in front of over 4,000 race fans.
"What an awesome way to start out the season," Hatch said. "My team and I put in a lot of hard work preparing the No. 91 truck for tonight's race and it really paid off. It feels great to get a win for our new co-sponsor Go Fast Sports. I'm also really proud of my Go Fast Sports teammate, Matt Daly, for finishing in the top five tonight. I'm glad to be back racing after the break. Irwindale Speedway is a great track and I look forward to racing here."
Saturday's race will be broadcasted on the Outdoor Channel on Saturday, July 23 at 8 p.m. PST.
