EL CAJON, California -- Inaugural 1986 NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Tour Series champion Ron Esau returns to stock car racing action this Saturday at Irwindale Speedway.
Many remember Esau’s presence at the famed road course, Riverside International Raceway, where Esau was a regular competitor with drivers, Rusty Wallace, Dale Earnhardt, Richard Petty and Benny Parsons just to name a few.
Esau will be piloting the No. 56 Greatshowers.com, ApprovedMemory.com, Kraftmaid Cabinets Chevrolet Monte Carlo for this weekend’s Lucas Oil Super Late Model race. The SLM division, a very popular series at Irwindale, listed over 39 entries opening night, March 12.
The Lakeside, California resident will be racing a selected event schedule this year to include several races at the 1/2-mile Irwindale Superspeedway along with a couple of races at the popular 3/8-mile Las Vegas Bullring. He had hoped to also enter several races at his hometown track, Cajon Speedway, but the 3/8-mile track could not finalize a race schedule for 2005 due to a prior lease agreement. “I was looking forward to racing in my own backyard, where I won the 1978 Cajon Stock Car Championship with Marc Reno,” said Esau.
Racing for more than 30 years with over 350 main and feature event wins, Esau has also enjoyed assisting other race teams (Brendan Gaughan, Brandon Whitt, and Walker Evans) as a chassis and shock expert throughout the years and is looking forward to getting back behind the wheel.
